México feminicida, performance presented in front of El palacio de Gobierno (the Palace of Governmen) of the city of Guadalajara, México, 2020. Photography by Pistor Orendain.
A group of women write the message "México feminicida" on the street, near the entrance of the Palacio de Gobierno, with combustible gel and set it on fire.
México feminicida y transfeminicida is a performance project carried out in public spaces as a call for resistance, solidarity, and a present free from gender violence. These actions are inspired by the elements of fire, earth, air, and water. The interventions were presented in the city of Guadalajara for four consecutive years (2020–2023), each month of March, in the context of International Women’s Day (8M). This performance corresponds to the element of fire, and is the first piece of the series.
