dulce hogar (sweet home)The pandemic and lockdown brought even more violence. Stay home, they say. But home is not safe. While staying in the domestic space should mean being safe and protected, the reality is that avoiding contagion often comes with a greater risk. Today, for millions of Mexican women, staying in their home "sweet home", is dangerous.
Domestic and femicidal violence in Mexico is the other pandemic, a structural virus, sharp and deafening like the whistle of a kettle.
During the first nine months of 2020, 2,261 women were murdered in the country.
The action consisted of boiling water in a whistling kettle, while the artist cut and cleaned flowers to place in a vase.
The kettle is still whistling.
